Learning is about more than just schools - it's about learning
from the cradle to the grave, and education policy in the 21st Century
increasingly reflects this. The Leitch report also highlights
the need in the UK to develop the skills in the workforce that we'll
need to stay competitive. Everyone in the field of education needs
to work together to achieve these. This conference will provide
opportunities to discuss the different approaches being taken by
the home nations - including how each has interpreted the 2004 Children
Act, and how services for children are provided. We will hear about
international research, and about innovative practices being developed
both here and abroad, including the latest work on tri-level reform.
Most of all we can share experiences and best practice in this changing
world of learning for life.
The North of England Education Conference is the most important
annual event in the UK's education calendar. Not only is
it the largest event of its kind, but it draws a top audience of
senior representatives from education delivery and policy. Running
for more than a hundred years, the conference now attracts internationally
renowned speakers and delegates. It provides an opportunity to showcase
ideas, to network, and share best practice.
It also generates a significant amount of national press interest.
Speakers at this high-profile conference have included
David Blunkett, Ruth Kelly, Estelle Morris and Jane Davidson. Historically,
ministers have used the event to make important announcements about
education in the UK. This year, the conference will also provide
opportunities for stakeholders to tackle some of the most challenging
issues in education today.
